54-Day Rosary Novena

We here at The Rosary Foundation have had many people asking about novenas, more specifically, the 54-Day Rosary Novena. It's no surprise we get this question, because more and more of our rosary miracle stories specifically mention the 54-Day Rosary Novena by name. This powerful novena has positively altered the lives of many people, so we would like to provide a brief summary of the rosary novena and how it is recited.

A novena is a devotion that consists of special prayers and/or actions performed consecutively for nine days. During the nine day novena period, prayers are recited for the purpose of receiving a requested intention, or "petition". The 54-Day Rosary Novena is a series of six consecutive nine-day novenas; it is very powerful and very special.

The origin of the 54-Day Rosary Novena dates back to 1884 in Italy, when a little girl by the name of Fortuna Agrelli was diagnosed with a serious illness. For over a year, Fortuna was gravely ill and her case was deemed 'hopeless' by the most celebrated physicians of her time. Left with no other alternative for help, the Agrelli family began a novena of rosaries. After two weeks time, the Virgin Mary appeared to Fortuna! During the apparition, Our Lady said "Child, your faith has pleased me. Whoever desires to obtain favors from me should make three Novenas of the prayers of the Rosary, and three Novenas in thanksgiving." After receiving this revelation, Fortuna and her family did as instructed and Fortuna was restored to perfect health.

The 54-Day Rosary Novena is based on this historical account. As the name indicates, this novena is properly completed by saying the rosary for 54 consecutive days. Praying the rosary is the same as usual, where meditation and reflection on the Mysteries of the Rosary is required on a daily basis. The only difference from ordinary rosary prayer is that this Novena consists of 27 days of prayers for petition followed by 27 days of prayer for thanksgiving. The rosary prayers of thanksgiving are to be recited regardless of whether or not the request was granted - during this time you are giving thanks that God's will is going to be done.

We hope you consider the 54-Day Rosary Novena and share your experiences with us.
